Attendance Procedures:

Absences

  1. Attendance notes should be turned into the guidance secretary, Ms. Collige, located at the back desk of the Administrative Building within three (3) school days of their return to school.   Failure to do so will cause the absence to be recorded as “unexcused”.  Students should not turn attendance notes into their teachers.

       Acceptable reasons to be absent per the Student Code of Conduct include the following:

*Illness of student

*Major illness in the immediate family of the student (immediate family is determined as parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, legal guardians or person “in loco parentis,” or a member of one’s own household).

*Death in the immediate family of the student

*Religious holiday of the student’s faith (including Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Epiphany, etc.)

*Religious instruction (including Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, etc.)

*Religious institutes, conferences, or workshops, provided that the principal or designee     approves the absence in advance

*Absences for trips or other parental requests.  REQUESTS MUST BE APPROVED AT LEAST ONE    WEEK IN ADVANCE.

*In-school or out-of-school suspension

*Subpoena or forced absence by any law enforcement agency, a copy of the subpoena or court     summons must be submitted to the school

*For purposes of attendance, school related activities would not be counted as absences from school.

*Issues and occasions specific to military families.

  1. For absences 5 days or more, which are claimed to be due to illness, documentation in the form of a doctor’s statement of a student’s illness (dates included) must be provided. 
  2. At the high school level, attendance is marked per period. If a student has at least five  (5) unexcused absences, or absences for which the reasons are unknown, within a calendar month or ten (10) unexcused absences, or absences for which reason are unknown, within a ninety (90) calendar day period, the school may require documented medical and/or legal excuses for a pattern of non-attendance.

Tardy

  1. If a student does not arrive to campus for the start of the school day (7:15 AM) they must sign in at the front desk in the Admin Building to obtain a tardy pass.  A medical, dental, legal note must be provided for the absences to be recorded as “excused.”   Parent will be required to check the student in for all other reasons.  Tardy notes written by parent will not be accepted.
  2. Students will be recorded as “unexcused absent” for all class period missed due to tardy arrival to school and if less than 15 minutes tardy for a period recorded as “unexcused tardy”. The tardy will be recorded as “excused absent” or “excused tardy” only if a medical, dental, legal note, etc. Is provided at time of check-in.

 

Student Consequences for Unexcused Absences

At the high school level, attendance is marked per period.  If a student has at least five (5) unexcused absences, or absences for which the reasons are unknown, in any one course within a calendar month or ten (10) unexcused absences, or absences for which the reasons are unknown, in any semester, tardies or early dismissals may lose privileges.

Loss of Privileges Due to Unexcused Absences

  1. May be excluded from attendance reward incentives
  2. Lose the privilege of participating in extracurricular activities. This could include dances, special events, club activities and athletics, until the end of the following grading quarter.
  3. Lose the privilege to drive to campus until the end of the following grading quarter.

 

Dress Code

  • Dress code regulations must be maintained at all times.
  • Students out of dress code receive a discipline referral and they will be isolated from class until their dress is corrected.
  • Shorts or skirts must be no more than 4” above the knee.
  • Jeans cannot expose the skin more than 4” above the knee.
  • Tank tops, spaghetti straps, halters, sexually implicit or explicit clothing, pajamas, spandex, bikinis are NOT allowed.
  • Shirts must not dip lower than an imaginary line from armpit to armpit and must be long enough to overlap tops of pants, shorts or skirts.
  • Boys must wear their pants securely at the waist and all shirts must have at least a 4” sleeve (shoulder to arm). Muscle or sleeveless shirts and athletic jerseys are NOT allowed.
  • Decorations, symbols, motors, or designs imprinted or attached to the body or clothing which are offensive to good taster or the maintenance of decorum, or which to advertise tobacco, alcohol, drugs, guns, violence, or which identify them as members of a secret antisocial groups or gangs shall NOT be worn to school or school functions.
  • Hats or head coverings are NOT allowed unless previously approved.

The principal or designee will make final decisions on the appropriateness of dress.
